Mike served as the first president of the Telluride Education Foundation from 1994 to 1996, and continued to serve TEF on its board until 1997. The Telluride Education Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to assist the Telluride schools with funding for projects outside the school system's ordinary budget. During the 1997-1998 school year, Mike and his family enjoyed a sabbatical in Paris , France . His children, Hilary and Travis, attended the American School of Paris , while Mike and his wife, Jill, immersed themselves in European life, studying French language and history, and entertaining friends and family who visited frequently. They also traveled extensively throughout Europe with their children during school breaks. Mike has been active in youth sports, coaching Town of Telluride teams in girls' softball and boys' baseball. Mike also coached the Telluride Middle School boys' basketball team from 1999 to 2001. Mike's law practice in Houston focused on oil and gas and real estate matters. He was Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization from 1986 to 1995. In Telluride, Mike's law practice has focused on real estate and general commercial matters. Mike attended the University of Texas in Austin , Texas , and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1975. Mike also attended the University of Texas Law School, where he graduated in 1978. Mike has become more active in real estate sales in the last few years. He has assisted the Multiple Listing Service committee and the Ethics committee of the Telluride Association of Realtors. Now that Mike's and Jill's children are in college, Mike was looking for new challenges, and is excited about making Telluride and Mountain Village Properties into one of the premier brokerage firms in Telluride by offering superior and uncompromising services to its clients.
